Saturday night saw Ahnna Parkhurst return to action at Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Ga.) competing in the Super and Crate Late Model ranks for the annual Cabin Fever. In a field of 43 Valvoline Iron-Man Racing Series entries, Parkhurst failed to qualify for the feature via her time trial effort, transferring her into the B-Main. Locking in the Top 4, Ahnna notched a third place finish, which positioned her 11th on the starting grid for the $4,000-to-win A-Main. After breaking into the Top-10, Parkhurst made contact with an infield tire while running in eighth that dropped her back to a 17th-place outing.

In the Crate ranks, Ahnna followed up the sixth fastest time in a field of 38 cars with a third place finish in her heat. With $1,500 on the line in the feature, Parkhurst clawed forward three spots on the one-lane track to finish seventh. (Josh James Artwork)

November 8, 2020 - Podium finish in National 100 in Late Model at EAMS
Ahnna Parkhurst drove her Fields Inc. No. 23 Cushman Paint and Body/ Richard Childress Racing Super Late Model to a podium finish in Sunday’s 46th Annual National 100 at East Alabama Motor Speedway.

“That was a crazy race with a lot of attrition,” Parkhurst commented. “We realized early that tires were going to play a huge part in the outcome of the race. On lap 49, I had a flat. I pitted under caution for two new rear tires. Dad leans in and tells me to drive easy the next 40 laps and maybe we’ll have something for them at the end – and we did. I hate it for those guys running up front, you never want a race to end that way. Overall, we had a really good weekend.”

In a field of 23 Super Late Models, Parkhurst followed up the fifth fastest time in her qualifying group with a third-place finish in her heat. In the Crate Late Model division, Ahnna came in third fastest in her group before placing second in her heat race behind Richie Stephens.

Starting Sunday night’s $15,000-to-win Super Late Model feature in ninth, Parkhurst suffered a pair of flat tires in the first half of the race that forced her to slow her pace in the latter half of the 100-lapper.

With multiple competitors suffering flat tires late, Parkhurst began challenging for a Top-5 finish as laps winded down. Taking advantage of tangle between two frontrunners on the final lap, Ahnna crossed the line in fourth, however, was elevated to a third-place finish after a car was disqualified. She trailed Joseph Joiner and Christian Hanger across the line with Rodney Martin and Dale McDowell rounding out the Top-5.

For the $5,000-to-win Crate Late Model feature, Ahnna was running in a podium spot for first half of the event until contact by another competitor affected her handling. After battling back into the Top-5, Parkhurst ran out of fuel in the final laps that dropped her back to 12th when she took the checkers.
